New Communication Volunteers

Poetry News with Kirstyn Bauer and Isaac King

Kirstyn Bauer and Isaac King (Bob King's grandson) are our two new communication volunteers heading up a new online publication called Poetry News. Kirstyn and Isaac write articles about poetry events in our Colorado community, interviewing some of our leaders and shakers. Their first story is "Arsen Kashkashian: Leading the Living Poets Society Book Club at Boulder Bookstore." You can check it out at the following link on the CPC website. And send us ideas for future stories.

Solstice Reading at Lithic Bookstore in Fruita

Over 50 people turned out for the poetry reading at the Lithic Bookstore in Fruita to hear CPC poets Danny Rosen, Chantae Bryant, Wendy Videlock and Ellen Metrick read on June 20, 2025.

Englewood Block Party Poetry Booth

The August Englewood Block Party featured a new creative space this year: the Englewood Poetry Booth, hosted in partnership with the Colorado Poets Center and Columbine Poets, Inc. Community members were invited to stop by, choose a prompt, and write a poem to share. What unfolded was a day full of connection, creativity, and meaningful moments. Val Szarek and Julie Cummings hosted this event. A Poetry News story is on the way.

Upcoming Poetry Events

Join us for a hands-on, heart-centered workshop celebrating Día de Muertos through art, poetry, and cultural remembrance. Led by Mexican American author and artist Nancy Viera, this workshop invites participants to honor their loved ones by creating personal ofrendas (altars) through three creative acts:

  • Design a Saint Candle – Customize a devotional candle with images, colors, and messages that reflect someone you wish to honor.
  • Make a Flower Wreath – Craft a vibrant wreath using paper or fresh flowers, symbolizing the cycles of life, memory, and rebirth.
  • Write a Calaverita Poem – Learn the tradition of humorous, heartfelt “calaveritas” (skull poems) and write your own playful tribute to someone living or passed.

This is a collaboration between the CPC and the Boulder Art Association.
