Biography

Carmelita Jaramillo is a lifelong poet with a passion for nature, astronomy and philosophy. A graduate of the University of New Mexico, she earned her Bachelors of Science in Biology in 2012. Carmelita grew up in southern New Mexico, where the desert landscape enchanted and intrigued her.

Carmelita has been a writing coach and taught poetry workshops for over ten years. Author of two poetry chapbooks, 100 Days of Haiku (November 2017) and Cosmic Soul (August 2023, Bilingual English and Spanish), Carmelita's poetry has recently been featured in the Clyfford Still Museum's Words on Paper 2024 Winter/Spring Publication in addition to the Tanka Society of America Fall 2024 Ribbons Publication.

Carmelita is also a performance poet and has recently been the feature poet at the Mercury Café Open Mic, Denver, CO (June 7, 2023) and the NROC Student Success Symposium, University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM (August 7, 2024).
