Dazzled
The assiduous spider spins
his silken filaments, weaves them
into gauzy confections that straddle
the garden, catching your eye with
silvery droplets of morning mist.
But beware those other webs,
not the gossamer veils cached
in your dusty corners,
but the ones you blunder into,
unmindful, those woven
with false luster and cunning,
strung just so,
to fit your weaknesses.
Virtuoso of deception,
this arachnid-in-disguise dazzles you
with the brilliance of its lair.
You cannot resist the allure.
Guileless as a new moth, you flutter
right in, only to be immobilized,
held captive by those
mucilaginous strands
you mistook for jewels.
