Into Stillness

Reach into stillness,
breathing lightly into a
world bathing in waves of heat.
The careless greenery shrugs
off its enthusiasm.
The world is dry, not brittle;
only a sun’s consuming
power can shadow the earth’s
youthful enthusiasm

still as midnight in winter,
but not asleep.
