Biography

Poet, fiction writer and performer SETH openly admits to having a love affair with language. His passion for words, particularly the rhythms and sounds of speech, extends not only to his craft but to his presentation. SETH has made a career carving out creative ways of presenting his poetry and short fiction.

One of Colorado’s best known performance poets, SETH has collaborated with countless musicians, poets, actors, dancers and other performance artists in a never-ending quest to render poetry more entertaining, and thus more accessible, to general audiences. Over the years he has garnered numerous awards for his pioneering efforts to meld spoken word with the other performance art forms.

As a member of Open Rangers, SETH produced and directed a series of Poetry Theater productions combining poetry with music, theater and dance. He was a member of the critically-acclaimed performance art trio Jafrika, recognized by the Rocky Mountain News as “among Denver’s finest cultural offerings. He has been a member of Denver’s National Poetry Slam Team and currently performs with Art Compost & the Word Mechanics.

SETH is author of A Black Odyssey (2012), a diverse, vibrant collection of poems modeled on Homer’s ancient epic, using it as an allegorical scaffolding for is own experiences as a Black man in contemporary America. As Gregory SETH Harris he is the author of The Perfect Stranger (2020), an absurdist satire weaving a complex, intricate tale infused with puns, malapropism, misspellings and clever, often poignant turns of phrasing as he pokes fun at human folly and the folly of human institutions. His experimental short stories have appeared in numerous literary publications.
